Space & Earth

Live tools for what is happening on the planet and over your head: earthquakes as they are recorded, the northern and southern lights, the International Space Station and every upcoming rocket launch.

Everything runs in your browser and reads public data directly from the agencies that publish it: the U.S. Geological Survey, NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, CelesTrak and The Space Devs. Pick your location once and the aurora and ISS tools both use it.

Frequently asked questions

Do these tools cost anything or need an account?

No. They are free, need no sign-up and run in your browser. Live data comes straight from public sources such as the USGS, NOAA, CelesTrak and The Space Devs.

Is my location sent anywhere?

If you choose “Use my location”, your position is used inside the page to work out distances, aurora chances and pass times. It is remembered on your own device so the other tools can use it, and it is not uploaded to Lithospheres. A searched town name is looked up with Open-Meteo’s free geocoding service.

How often is the data updated?

Earthquakes every minute, the aurora map about every five minutes, the ISS position every second, and the launch schedule every 15 minutes, as long as the page is open.
